Pats remain undefeated; Giants kick their way to victory

January 23, 2008 By: Chris Lee Category: NFL No Comments →

In the early game on Sunday the San Diego Chargers went to Foxboro to face the undefeated New England Patriots. There was alot made about the key injuries to the big players on the Chargers offense. The 3 players were Antonio Gates, Phillip Rivers and LT. All 3 started the game however, LT played like the first drive and that was about all. Losing a key player like that was a costly blow to the Chargers. the Patriots were played really hard but, they Chargers just couldn’t solve the Pats dominating D-Fence. It was amazing how poorly Tom Brady seemed to play. I guess he didn’t play that bad it is just that everyone is so used to perfection that any mistake he makes is viewed as a terrible game.

In the late game on Sunday the New York Giants traveled to Lambeau to take on Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers. This was a great game. It was back and forth and back and forth the entire time. The game was well played until the last 630 of the 4th quarter all the interceptions, fumbles and missed field goals. Then the game went to Overtime where Brett Favre threw another interception by former Ottawa Renegades Lawrence Tynes. If this truly is Brett Favre’s last pass as a quarterback in this league he will probably be remembered for throwing an interception that cost his team a chance to play in the superbowl.

My Divisional Playoff Picks

pack.jpgIn the early game on Saturday it pits the Green Bay Packers at home to the Seattle Seahawks. While the Green Bay Packers have an ageless Brett Favre at the helm it’s his former back up Matt Hasselbeck. I give the edge to Favre. In the running game it’s Ryan Grant for Green Bay trying to out run the ever so good Shawn Alexander. This edge goes to Seattle. This should be a good game with both teams being pretty evenly matched. If this game is anything like the game from a few years ago then it should be a doozy. One important hint to Hasselbeck if it does go to overtime just keep your mouth shut and play the game. As some of you may remember the last time they played Hasselbeck and the Seahawks won the coin toss and Hasselbeck’s words were ” We want they ball and we are going to score”. Not long after this Al Harris intercepted Hasselbeck and ran it in for the touchdown. The packers haven’t won since.

Pick: Green Bay

In the late game on Saturday it’s the Jacksonville Jaguars travelling to Foxboro to face the New England Patriots in the much anticipated game. The New England Patriots are undefeated going into this game. As has been all season they are all business heading into this game. The key match ups in this game will be between Tom Brady for Newpats1.jpg England and David Garrard. Advantage Brady and the other match up pits Maurice Jones-Drew and Fred Taylor for Jacksonville against Laurence Maroney and Kevin Faulk. Both sets of running backs are strong but the slight advantage goes to the Jaguars. This game will be a smash mouth game. Both teams have proved to be good at playing the smash mouth style. I think the key will be the saftey’s for Jacksonville if they are able to contain the numerous weapons Tom Brady has then they will be able to keep it close. Personally I feel that the Jaguars have to play a near perfect game in order to stay close to this incredible New England team.

Pick: New England

colts.jpg In the early game on Sunday it will be the San Diego Chargers headed into Indy to face the Indianapolis Colts. This should be a good game but i expect the x factor will be the quarterback. Last time these guys faced each other Payton Manning threw 6 interceptions. Don’t expect this again. The defending champs will know they could face New England. I expect that they will want another crack at them after their early season lose to the Patriots. On the other hand San Diego will want to prove that they are a far better team in these playoffs then they were last year and will want to avenge the lose to the Patriots from last year. I feel that if the Chargers are going to win this game then their quarterback Phillip Rivers will have to have an incredible almost perfect game. Also LT will need to out run Joseph Addai by alot.

Pick: Indianapolis Colts

And the final divisional match-up will include the New York Giants heading to Texas to take on the Cowboys. Much has been made this week about the little trip Tony Romogiants1.jpg made to Mexico with his current girlfriend Jessica Simpson. Personally I feel that it was a stupid thing to do he should have waited until after the season is over to do any traveling. Over the last few weeks Romo and the Cowboys offense has been sputtering and he should have focused only on the task at hand. Especially after the serious error he made last playoffs. It is very hard in football to beat a team 3 times in a season and I expect the Giants to have researched well what went wrong before and will come out firing on all cylinders. They will look like the Cowboys did earlier in the season. I expect Romo to come into this game flat and play poorly. I also expect TO to come into the game unhealthy. I think the Giants will be giant in this game and will have no trouble beating up on the weakened Cowboys team.

Pick: New York Giants
